Training Course: Quark! project - UC Physics School for young people

General Objectives of the Course

Complement the training in Physics taught in secondary education in a set of topics that are not covered in the Portuguese curriculum for the subjects of Physics/Physical-Chemical Sciences and Mathematics, but which are part of the curriculum of the International Physics Olympiads.

Admission Requirements

Enrolment in 11th or 12th year of high school. Application including student motivation letter and recommendation letter by Physics teacher.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Approved/Failed as consequence of presence and participation in 60% of the course sessions.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

The skills to be developed are the ability to solve complex Physics problems, at the level of those presented in international Physics competitions; ability to analyze and critically interpret results; ability to use advanced mathematical tools, including integral and numerical calculation and simulation in solving Physics problems; ability to interpret and analyze experimental data and deal with associated uncertainties.
