Specialization Course In Breast Diseases

General Objectives of the Course

The course aims to promote the acquisition of knowledge and more extensive and in-depth skills in Breast Diseases, namely with regard to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, psychological and legal framework, and quality of life of these patients. To prepare more qualified professionals who intend to dedicate themselves to this scientific and clinical subject to act in a correct, comprehensive and articulate way in patients with breast diseases.
The multidisciplinary training in breast diseases in several critical situations will also be object of this course.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The final evaluation of each course unit is expressed by a classification in a numeric scale from 0 to 20. The course’s final grade is obtained through the weighted arithmetic average (rounded to the nearest unit) of the compulsory and elective course units, having the ECTS number as a weighted factor. The courses’ final grade is expressed in the range of 10-20 of the numerical integer scale 0 to 20, as well as its equivalent in the European comparability scale of classification. The final course classification is associated to a qualitative mention, expressed in terms of 10 to 13 – Sufficient, 14 and 15 – Good, 16 and 17 – Very Good and 18 to 20 – Excellent.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

To meet the different anatomical, physiological and pathological particularities and specificities of breast diseases. To integrate strategies of screening for the main breast diseases, benign or malignant. To know the different forms of surgical and non-surgical treatment, understand the psychological, legal and rehabilitation particularities and the most modern strategies to promote the quality of life of these patients.
To identify and understand particular cases of male gender breast diseases, hereditary tumors, pregnancy and fertility preservation, and their clinical orientation. To address strategies for breast reconstruction and promotion of self-image and individual physical, emotional, psychological and sexual satisfaction.
