Training course for environmental monitors in non-formal spaces

General Objectives of the Course

1. Identify the environmental factors that affect the health and well-being of living beings in the environment, such as the quality of air, water, soil and food;
2. Assess the presence of pollutants, such as gases, particles, chemicals and other contaminants that may affect human health or the health of animals living in the environment;
3. Measure the temperature, humidity, luminosity and other physical parameters of the environment that may affect the behaviour and survival of the species that live there;
4. Monitor the biodiversity of the environment, identifying the species present, their distribution and abundance, and identifying possible threats to their conservation;
5. Develop and implement environmental conservation and restoration strategies, including actions to reduce pollution, restore degraded habitats and promote biodiversity;
6. Disseminate information about the importance of environmental conservation and actions that can be taken to reduce human impact on the environment;
7. Monitor and evaluate the results of conservation and restoration actions, identifying opportunities for improvement and adjusting strategies as necessary;
8. Promoting actions to communicate results, data and scientific knowledge gathered within the scope of training.

Admission Requirements

UC degree students up to a maximum of 23 years of age, and/or students from other higher education institutions, may apply; secondary school students (over 16 years old). Candidates will be admitted in order of registration, as long as they meet the pre-defined access conditions.

(i) Instrumental skills, eg skills in analysis and synthesis, organization and planning, oral and written communication, use of computer tools, information management, decision-making capacity, problem-solving.
(ii) Personal and interpersonal skills, eg, skills in group work and in interdisciplinary teams, critical thinking and understanding the language of specialists.
(iii) Systemic competencies, eg autonomous learning, research, practical application of theoretical knowledge, planning, self-criticism and self-evaluation.
(iv) It is also intended to stimulate creativity, concern for rigour and quality.
