Professional Goals

The use of research by psychology professionals is the right way to affirm Psychology as a mature science. The Master in Psychological Science focuses on the planning, execution and management of science in the field of psychology. The master's degree is aimed at training for research in the area of psychology or in multidisciplinary teams. In addition to pursuing doctoral studies, potential professional opportunities for this master's degree include supporting and managing scientific projects of various kinds, science management in research units, roles in national and international consultants, as well as entry into the research career. As for psychologists who already exercise their professional practice, this master's degree allows them to acquire research skills for their practice, taking into account that, at present, hiring psychologists presupposes a profile in which the demonstration of these skills is essential. Professionals in the field of psychology need to have research and funding skills through competitive projects. This is something that is increasingly valued by employers in the different areas and institutional contexts in which psychologists practice their profession. Thus, this master's degree seeks to allow the continuous development of knowledge in the professional practice of psychologists. It seeks to do so based on up-to-date training, on the understanding that mastering research techniques and practices is fundamental, both for that professional practice and for the development of research that can also be done based on problems in professional contexts, seeking to find solutions for them.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The assessment, as a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, aims to assess the skills and knowledge acquired by students, their critical thinking, their ability to enunciate and solve problems, and their command of written and oral presentation. Students who are enrolled in the curricular units in the academic year to which the exams refer and, simultaneously, enrolled in those exams when such enrolment is necessary, will be admitted to the evaluation tests. The elements of evaluation are: Written or oral exam, tests, written or practical works, individual or group projects, which may have to be defended orally, presentations in class and participation in lectures, projects or other activities validated by the teacher responsible for the curricular unit. The assessment of each curricular unit may include one or more of the assessment elements indicated above. The classification of each student, for each curricular unit, will be translated into a whole value between 0 and 20 points and students who obtain a minimum final classification of 10 points will be considered approved. Whenever the assessment of a curricular unit includes more than one assessment element, the final mark is calculated from the marks obtained in each assessment element, through a formula made public in the annual sheet of the curricular unit, in the RAUC’s terms.
