General Objectives of the Course

The Master in Management aims to train highly qualified professionals, endowed with strategic knowledge and tools that allow them to develop their careers in a highly competitive scientific or professional context, with the new challenges associated with greater internationalization, digitalization, and concern for sustainability.
Thus, the programme looks for:
- Respond to postgraduate training needs in the area of management, promoting the sustainability of organizations based on the mastery of the fundamental areas of strategy, people management, operations management, marketing, ethics and social responsibility, information systems, analysis of data and decision analysis;
- Train senior management of companies and other institutions, public or private, from different sectors of the economy, with up-to-date technical skills and specific knowledge, enabling the development or strengthening of the competitiveness of organizations with a specific focus on the international dimension.

Admission Requirements


Applications are validated by the UC services in accordance with the general conditions of access to the study cycle leading to a master's degree (Art. 17, DL 65/2018, of 16 August). Those considered valid are evaluated by the coordination of the Master according to the specific conditions of access (Art. 26, paragraph a, of the same DL). In these, the descending ranking of the Application Grade (AG) will be the only criterion in the selection of the first n applications (n, numerus clausus of the application phase under analysis).
The AG is obtained from the weighted consideration of different aspects of candidates:
- Academic Curriculum (AC);
- Professional Curriculum (PC);
- Other personal skills: commitment, availability, preparation and motivation to fulfill the objectives of the course, expressed in the Motivation Letter.
The specific aspects to be valued in each of the 3 partial assessments, and the way to weight them, will be disclosed in the annual call for applications.

Professional Goals

Master's graduates in Management have advanced qualifications to exercise functions in several business fields, such as auditing and consulting, banking and insurance, finance, production and logístics, human resources, marketing, teaching and research, namely in public bodies, companies and associations, both at national and international level.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

The Master in Management aims to ensure a specialization in the core areas of Management that intersects with complementary areas such as information systems and law. It also allows the student freedom to define a path aligned with their interests (focused on research or professional development).
Thus, the programme allows students to:
- Acquire current, innovative and essential knowledge and techniques in the core areas of management;
- Integrate knowledge from related areas to solve complex situations, in multidisciplinary, international contexts, with incomplete information and increasing digitization, issuing judgments and reflecting on the ethical and social implications and responsibilities involved;
- Develop leadership, communication and other strategic skills to objectively convey their ideas to different audiences;
- Improve scientific skills in order to enable the student to integrate a 3rd cycle of studies.

Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulation of the University of Coimbra.

Graduation Requirements

The Master's degree requires the successful completion of all units of study in the programme, as well as the successful defense of a dissertation, internship report or project, to a total of 120 ECTS.
Successful completion of the academic component of the master's course, a Specialization Course Diploma will be awarded.

Access to Further Studies

Master's graduates in Management have increased competences for applying to a PhD programme.
