Training Course in Fundamentals of Dance and Movement Psychotherapy

General Objectives of the Course

To capacitate professionals to use Movement and Dance as a complement of their basic training, especially in the areas of education and clinic; To provide knowledge about different strategies, techniques and methods of intervention in DMT; To provide a better knowledge of oneself, a greater capacity for intervention and the development of creativity; To prepare for the Observation and Analysis of Movement, in order to intervene in group dynamics, through verbal and non-verbal processes. This course invests in Observation and Movement Analysis, a core subject, related to several areas of knowledge, such as Developmental Psychology, Body Awareness, Communication Processes and Psychotherapeutic Processes. It constitutes, in itself, an added value for our students, who can take this training for very different reasons, with professional objectives or not, adapted to their projects.

Admission Requirements

Must have a minimum level equivalent to a degree. Prior learning - no previous experience in dance is required, but priority is given to those who have had some form of artistic experience, formal or non-formal, as well as training in psychology, education, social service and other social and human sciences.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

• Enhance their body awareness and their movement vocabulary;
• To acquire basic knowledge of the Laban/Bartenieff system;
• To explore and to identity possible meaning of their own personal movement;
• Understand the stages of movement group processes;
• Identify psychopathologies associated to certain movement profiles;
• Recognize their own movement profile and learn how to use or adjust it in interpersonal communication;
• Build a movement observation scale;
• Write a report on their own movement profile.
