Initiation to nutritional assessment for coaches

General Objectives of the Course

Provide coaches with tools and knowledge that will allow them to analyze the diet of their athletes, in order to: i) verify that the diet is adapted to the training requirements, ii) if possible improve this diet, iii) if necessary, identify possible risks of deficiencies or excesses that require the guidance and monitoring of the athlete by a nutritionist.

Admission Requirements

Have the title of Sports Coach (TPTD), Physical Exercise Technician (TPTEF), Technical Director (TPDT) or Degree in Sports Science (Physical Education).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

With the continuous evaluation of the participants in problem solving situations and in the various interactions throughout the training, the students will be able to obtain up to 60 points regarding the quality of their participation, the synthesis work counting for 40 points, the final evaluation will be about 100 points, and passing the short course will be awarded with a minimum grade of 50 points. The student will pass the short course if he reaches a minimum score of 50 points. The grade will be converted to a scale of 0-20 values.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Ability to apply a nutritional diary; Ability to estimate the weight of portions consumed; Ability to put these weights in an Excel spreadsheet; Ability to interpret the results obtained from the point of view of training needs (hydration and proteins and carbohydrates) and from the point of view of nutritional balance (calories, vitamins, minerals, fibers, lipids) and guidance for the services of a nutritionist when necessary.
