Master in New Technologies for Digital Transition in Dentistry
General Objectives of the Course
This master's degree in "New Technologies for Digital Transition in Dentistry" aims to provide students with knowledge in the area of digitaltransition with practical application, both in medical and dentistry care activity, and in the industry for the development of advanced techniques inthe manufacture of medical-dental technology. The course program includes modules in the basic, laboratory and clinical areas of dentistry,providing a holistic approach but with great practical applicability. The offer of modules in each specialty allows for greater in-depth knowledgeaccording on the students' areas of interest and performance. In addition to the theoretical approach, pre-clinical, laboratory and clinical exampleswill be emphasized, enabling students to acquire innovative practical skills.Admission Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of five years' previous professional experience as well as being in one of the following situations:
a) Holders of Undergraduate degrees / Integrated Masters or the legal equivalent in Dentistry or in Medicine, with a specialty or residence in the specialties of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery;
b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process, in the areas referred to in paragraph a), b), c);
c) Holders of a higher academic degree obtained abroad that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the undergraduate degree in one of the areas mentioned in the previous paragraphs by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC).

Professional Goals
This course does not specifically qualify for professional practice. However, it provides the scientific and technical knowledge and skills necessary to work in new technologies in the areas of Dentistry and Craniofacial Sciences, and in dental technique laboratorial areas, in academic institutions, hospitals and clinical institutions, technique laboratorial units, and industry (pharmaceutical and dental materials companies, start-ups developing new products and/or medical devices), where in-depth knowledge of life sciences, including Dentistry, is an asset. Students may proceed to PhD studies, or specialize as research technicians, laboratorial technicians, project managers or organizers of scientific events.Mode of Study

As assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, its aim is to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Students may only register for exams for classes they are currently enrolled. The following are examples of assessment items: Oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects that may require an oral defense, as well as class participation. Assessment for each class may include one or more of the above mentioned items. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20 and a grade of 10 is required to pass. Whenever the grade comprises more than one item, the final grade is calculated by taking into account the relative weight of each item according a formula published in the course outline.Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
Gaining skills in order to demonstrate the ability to:Critically apply appropriate digital MD techniques; Provide solutions to highly complex clinicalcases;Possess effective leadership and management practices to coordinate complex situations; Apply the learned tools to clinical, laboratory orindustrial practice; Identify, solve problems systematically and creatively, communicate and make good use of information technology, armed withthe necessary knowledge about the regulatory insight and oversight for AI-based technologies. At the skill level, should be able to communicate inscientific language, accurately interpret information obtained from medical data. For successful accomplishment of master’s degree, students will have to obtain positive grades (≥ 10 values, in 20) in a set of curricular units that make up a total of 60 ECTS and that include the accomplishment, discussion and public defense of the master thesis.
Access to Further Studies
Obtaining a Master degree in New Technologies for Digital Transition inDentistry allows the application for and access to more advanced training programs within the scope of the 3rd cycle, which includes several doctoral programs such as the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences, coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra.
