Specialization Course in Promoting Active and Healthy Lifestyles in Low-Density Territories

General Objectives of the Course

The course is oriented towards promoting the practice of physical activity and physical exercise, in inclusive contexts, based on the concept of "green exercise", associated with the development of an awareness based on sustainability, on the modifiability of behaviour directed to the practice. physical activity aimed at improving health and well-being, and associated with the development of active, healthy lifestyles in harmony with nature. The course contributes to the development of 2030 SDG 3,4,5,11 and 12, with the purpose of developing skills to promote active and sustainable lifestyles in low-density territories in the areas: i) Reduction of the global risk of disease , ii) Promotion of mental health and well-being, iii) Elimination of gender disparities and promotion of equal access, iv) Promotion of knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable development, v) Promotion of targeted local interventions based on inclusive policies.

Admission Requirements

1 – The following candidates can apply to this master course:
a) diploma in a Portuguese higher education institution;
b) diploma in an European higher education institution that is organized according to Bologna principles;
c) diploma obtained in other systems that are recognized by the Scientific Committee of the Faculty;
d) candidates with a professional curriculum that is considered relevant by the Scientific Committee of the
Faculty;
d) holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting the capacity to
carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the Faculty. candidates must obtain a positive
curriculum evaluation, considering the criteria and weightings established by the Scientific Committee of the
Faculty.
2) In subparagraphs a), b) and c) of nº1, applications from graduates are accepted, preferably from the Sports Sciences area, but also from related scientific areas.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The classification of the curricular units will be quantitative, in a scale from zero to 20 values, being the final grade of the course calculated based on the arithmetic average of the marks obtained in each one of its curricular units.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

1. Know the organization and political-administrative functioning of the Central Region and the main characteristics of low-density territories;
2. Know the health policies associated with the promotion of physical activity and physical exercise, and their applicability in low-density territories, according to the strategies defined by European and national programs;
3. Recognize the importance of developing an active and sustainable lifestyle, as well as the mechanisms associated with behavior modifiability that support such change;
4. Identify, mobilize and implement a wide range of physical activities and physical exercise programs in natural intervention contexts, suitable for different groups in a sustainable and inclusive context;
5. Build and implement integrated projects of local intervention, promoting active and sustainable lifestyles, in low-density territories;
6. Evaluate and monitor physical activities and physical exercise programs, in different natural contexts and local intervention].
