PhD in Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Systems
General Objectives of the Course
This PhD aims to provide advanced scientific training in the area of Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Systems (EEIS). It is intended for national and foreign students. The objective is to foster innovation capacities and prepare themfor the autonomous realization of scientific research, strengthening national technological capacity and contributing to their integration in international knowledge networks. The proposal is based on the experience of the DEEC Phd
created in 2007. Intelligent Systems are present in the various areas of Electrical Eng. such as: robotics, automation, electronic, telecommunications, information technology and energy, this led to the creation of a study cycle in EEIS.
The PhD is supported by the existence of research projects with high scientific potential in this area that cover the various themes involving the different research institutes of the department recognized by the FCT or industrial.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
To train EESI PhD students to work in sectors of high scientific and technological competence in higher education laboratories and research institutes, public service companies and in the network. The objective is to foster the capacity for innovation and permanent updating from a perspective of internationalization and reinforcement of the national technological capacity. The students' research work is interconnected with activities of the R&D Units recognized by the FCT, namely ISR-Coimbra IT-Coimbra INESC Coimbra or CEMMPRE and in R&D projects contractedthrough the UC. The goal is:
Understand and integrate as conceptual and methodological bases for research in Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Systems.
The research questions formulated face a new research problem in the area of your Thesis.
Assess the merits and shortcomings of the solutions found.
Expose and discuss orally and in writing.
