At the end the student should be able to:

- Identify the different Types of child maltreatment and recognize their specificity

- Develop skills on assessment and diagnosis of child maltreatment situations

- Know prevention and intervention programs designed for victims of child maltreatment

- Design strategies and programs to work with victims of child maltreatment

- Conceptualize specific interventions in the dynamics of Placement  Institutions, in order to make them more protective and therapeutic

1. The concept of maltreated children

2. Ecological and developmental perspective of the abused child

3. The transgenerationality maltreatment

4. Types of child maltreatment: physical and psychological maltreatment; neglect; sexual abuse; exposure to domestic violence, Munchausen syndrome by proxy

5. Characteristics and developmental impact of each type of child maltreatment

6. Assessment of neglect and physical and psychological maltreatment: instruments and techniques

7. Prevention and Intervention programs for the child and family

8. The role of schools and teachers  in the detection of child maltreatment situations

9. Methods and techniques of intervention with abused children: life story work (Richard Rose) and play therapy

10. Institutional care of abused children
