Learning Outcomes

Ageing is a privilege and a social acquisition – it is also a challenge with an impact on all aspects of our society.

This course explores the impact on psychotherapeutic approaches.


Learning Outcomes

Acquisition of basic knowledge about mental disorders in advanced adulthood and possibilities of intervention.
1) Understanding of some of the topics likely to appear frequently in therapeutic intervention with the elderly.
2) Understanding of loss and grief in the life cycle and understanding its specificities in the 3rd age.
3) Knowledge of the comprehensive models (the etiology, manifestations, and maintenance factors) of loss, grief and associated symptoms.
4) Enabling an approach to the reality of clinical intervention by knowing and applying some cognitive-behavioural assessment and intervention techniques to loss and mourning during the 3rd age.
5) Knowledge of the different contexts of intervention at this level.

6.i CALTAP:Contextual Adult Lifespan Theory for Adapting Psychotherapy:
– Influences of cohort, culture, context, and maturing
– Age-specific challenges
6.2 The APA guidelines (2004): attitudes, generic knowledge of adult development, ageing and old age, assessment, intervention, consultation, and other support and ongoing education services regarding practice for older adults.
7. Pikes Peak model: attitude, knowledge, and skills for practice in the area of psychogerontology and the core aspects recommended in the basic training to develop those skills.
