Recommended Prerequisites

It is strongly recommended that students have previously passed the following units: Behaviour Modification, Cognitive Models in Clinical Psychology, Psychopathology I, Psychopathology II and Psychophysiology.

Teaching Methods

In the theory classes, the preferred method is lectures accompanied by clinical case reports. In practical classes, several clinical cases will be presented to enable students to train their clinical evaluation competencies. Role-play activities with discussions will feature regularly.

Learning Outcomes

Goals: Students are expected to(1)expand their knowledge about the cognitive-behavioural models,(2)become familiar with specific theoretical developments for common clinical disorders,and(3)develop skills in clinical assessment,case conceptualisation and intervention strategies.
Theoretical competencies:
1.to know the theoretical assumptions underlying the cognitive-behavioural model;
2.to promote reflection about the epistemological and pragmatic implications of the theoretical foundations of the model;
3.to know the specific cognitive-behavioural theoretical developments for: simple phobia, panic and agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, depression, eating disorders and schizophrenia, in order to successfully conceptualise and design treatment programmes.
Practical competencies:
1.development of cognitive-behavioural assessment skills;
2.development of therapeutic intervention skills by training in the application of cognitive and behavioural intervention strategies and procedures.

Assessment Methods

Assessment
Evaluation is based on two items: (1) a final written test on the contents of the theory classes (50%), and (2) a group assignment which is divided in two parts: cognitive-behavioural clinical history + case formulation (50%). Students can choose to be assessed by a final written test covering all the unit’s contents (100%).: 100.0%
