Learning Outcomes

Objectives: 1. To use psychological assessment tools meticulously. 2. To coordinate the information gathered by psychological assessment tools in order to write a relevant and well-founded psychological report. 3. To learn how to combine psychological practice with research (theoretical and empirical) in psychological assessment, tools and psychological reports.

Competencies: 1. To know about the psychological assessment tools needed for professional practice in Psychology in different contexts and with studies in Portugal. 2. To identify key issues of a technical, psychometric and ethical nature related to the use of tools based on the analysis of published theoretical and empirical research. 3. To demonstrate competence in communicating the information obtained and in writing psychological reports. 4. To understand the complexity of the specialised work of the psychologist as an expert in psychological assessment and writing reports.

Syllabus

1. Aims, assumptions, advantages and limitations, psychometric parameters and other research with psychological assessment tools that examine: 1.1. Intelligence (WAIS-III); 1.2. Personality (MMPI-2, NEO PI-R, MCMI-III, 16 PF-5; EPQ-R; ICAC, PHSCS-II, Rorschach, TAT) and 1.3. Symptoms (STAI, BSI, BDI/ BDI-II, IACLIDE, RCMAS, STAI-C): 2. New instruments for psychological assessment developed for the Portuguese: IACFiTe, IAFAI, MoCA). 3. Psychological Reports: technical aspects of writing, guidelines and other technical advice in the preparation and presentation of the report; table of contents (analysis of the application and background information, observation of behaviour, test scores and other assessment tools and their interpretation, diagnostic impressions and conceptualisation / formulation of the case; recommendations); examples, ethical and deontological issues. 4. The psychologist as an expert in psychological assessment tasks and writing reports.
