Objectives and Profile of the Programme
Being Master of Engineering Materials by FCTUC means to be a qualified professional with full multi-disciplinary knowledge on various types of materials. Graduate students should develop skills in: • Different types of materials, corresponding properties and processing and manufacturing technologies; • New technologies and new materials, including the current challenges in the field of nanotechnology / nanomaterials; • Behavior of materials, either during processing or usage and its relationship with the surrounding environment; • Technological training focusing on the analysis and interpretation of data, on engineering practice, including entrepreneurship and innovation; Students should develop new general and specific skills that should allow her/him to create products and find innovative solutions, while exploring issues related to Quality, Innovation and the Environment.Mode of Study

Students possessing the MEMAT can access a 3º study cycle, conducing to a PhD degree in engineering.Admission Requirements
1. A degree in the 1st Cycle of Bologna for the first three years (180 ECTS) for the integrated Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering FCTUC (direct access). 2. Bachelor degree or legal equivalent in Materials Engineering (or other degrees that have similar curricula, although they may have different names), Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Environmental Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Civil Engineering. 3. Bachelor degree or legal equivalent in other areas of Engineering and Exact and Natural Sciences, after curricular analysis by the Scientific Committee of the Master’s degree. 4. Academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the Scientific Committee of the Master’s degree as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.Recognition of Prior Learning
