Objectives and Profile of the Programme
The degree programme in Social and Cultural Anthropology has as its aims: 1) to provide students with foundation training in the Social Sciences and other subject-related areas, as well as advanced training that may enable them to further their studies in the field of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the third cycle level; 2) to deliver an advanced programme of studies devoted to the analysis of urgent issues of the contemporary world (migrations, human rights, indigenous rights’ movements, material, cultural and moral property, practices and representations of identity, land and environment) based on several contemporary ethnographic cases from Europe, Africa, Latin America and North America; 3) to endow professionals, who work in local or international cooperation agencies, in the area of education, human rights or cultural promotion (associations, museums, municipalities and Non-Governmental Organisations) with analytical and instrumental tools for decision making, which may help to identify, prevent and solve conflict problems arising from the confrontation of different cultural experiences. The course is organised in accordance with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) and has the duration of 4 study semesters (2 years). Students are conferred 120 ECTS credits upon successful completion of the course, which is structured as follows: i) 60 ECTS correspond to a specialization course with a study programme comprising nine compulsory course units distributed by two semesters and ii) 60 ECTS correspond to the writing and defence of an original dissertation.

Access to Further Studies
The Ma degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology enables the admission to the PhD programme in the area.
Admission Requirements
May apply for admission to the Master in Social and Cultural Anthropology holders of a degree or legal equivalent in: Anthropology, Archaeology, Law, Philosophy, History, Psychology, Sociology, International Relations and the holders of a degree or legal equivalent in any other area of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Previously acquired knowledge is usually incorporated in the individual research project that stands at the basis of the final thesis.
